Police Arrests Freedom City Stampede MC

Police have confirmed the arrest of the Freedom City Stampede MC who is said to have asked pleasure seekers to move out of the hall to watch a fireworks display which resulted in a stampede that led to the loss of lives.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, explained that MC Elvia Francis Jjuuko was tracked and arrested from Mityana where he had gone into hiding following the incident on new year’s day.

Freedom city MC Elvia Francis Jjuuko has been slapped with nine counts of charges just like the event organizer Abbey Musingizi alias Abtex, who was sent to Luzira Prison till next week Tuesday.

The police and the investigation team said there was negligence from the event organizers who allegedly closed four entries/exits and left only one open for revelers to use as they rushed out to watch the fireworks display.

According to police, when the master of ceremony asked revelers to move out to watch fireworks, there was a stampede as over 7000 revelers squeezed themselves into one exit point leading to the death of 10.

Investigations into the incident are still ongoing as other individuals who were accused of the stampede are still being interrogated.
