American Rapper Meek Mill Criticised For Shooting Video In Ghanaian Presidential Palace

When it comes to videos, artists always tend to look for the most exquisite places to shoot their videos. This time round Meek Mill chose Jubilee House, the Presidential home and office of Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo for his video shoot. This resulted in criticism citing “ despicable desecration of the Jubilee House. “

The Golden Jubilee House or Jubilee House can be likened to Uganda’s State House where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni resides. The Jubilee House is located in Accra and is built on a site connected with British Gold Coast Government.

The said video shoot is thought to have been recorded last month when Meek Mill was in Ghana. He even performed at the Afro Nation during Christmas Holidays while in Ghana.

Last Sunday ( January 8), the 35 – year Old Philadelphia Rapper shared a snippet of a music video via his Instagram account. The video shows Meek Mill in different places at the Jubilee House: in Infront of the building, main corridors, main conference hall as he raps.

A number of Ghanaians seem not to have taken this in good faith with the American Rapper shooting a video at their government building. Key among the critics is Ghana’s Education Minister Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa. The minister posting on his official Twitter account said:

“ All those responsible for this despicable desecration of the Jubilee House by Meek Mill must be fired immediately.

How do those explicit lyrics from the president’s lectern project Ghana positively?

Is Ghana’s seat of government no longer a high-security installation? “.

Meek Mill apologizes for shooting Video in Jubilee House

However, the rapper responding to the criticism decided to apologize and said he did not mean disrespect but rather was aiming at showcasing the art and connecting black people in America and Ghana. Below is his full apology as posted on his official Twitter account.

“To the people of Ghana, no video I drop is ever meant to disrespect the people of Ghana …. The fastest way to make a connection is thru music and I wanted to do that by displaying art … I’m in my 30s from America and didn’t know much about the lifestyle here.. ”

My apologies to the people if any disrespect! We still gonna push to make the connection between black people in America and Africa … what I’m trying to do is more than a video and you should see coming soon! My apologies to the office also!

I don’t think they knew it was video footage when we asked to shoot it’s a small camera and one kid … in America, we didn’t know this existed and was excited to show because they don’t show Ghana on our media much! So I’ll take responsibility for my mistake! Not intentional “.
