Artist Complaints

Events Organisers Dont Want Artistes To Become Rich – Kalifah Aganaga

According to Kalifah AGANAGA, Ugandan promoters pay their musicians peanuts for their performances because they don’t want them to become wealthy.

Khalifah, who had been hosted at NTV’s popular morning show, “MWASUZE MUTYA” which is presented by a veteran news anchor and TV show host, Faridah Nakazibwe, said that the music promoters in Uganda are selfish, they don’t appreciate the talent and are so condescending. Khalifah made these statements as a result of being asked about his view on promoters who dictate the rate card for musicians.

He also said that as artists, they invest a lot of money and time in their craft, and so it is not right if an events organizer simply dictates which amount a particular artiste should be paid. He continued by saying that there are so many musicians who charge less and so event organizers should choose to work with those ones.

Singer AGANAGA had been hosted to talk about his life and career as an artist, given that the purpose of the “MWASUZE MUTYA” program is to profile people. Kalifah Aganaga also threw some jabs at their fellow singer, Apass Bagonza. Khalifah said that Apass is a big brand that should not be seen as a clown, all in the name of advertising products to be consumed by young children.

He said that artists should not take endorsements only for the sake of money, but they should take those endorsements which add to their brands.

He also said that the “hatred” between him and Apass was solely because of music and that they have since reconciled. He however said that if Apass still thinks that he is a better artiste, then they should go for a musical battle and settle this debate. Khalifah also said that apart from Apass, there are other artists who were looking down on him and wanted to compete with him and these included Kabako, Fik Fameika, and others, but he says that he has since silenced all of them with his music.

When he was asked why his music career has taken a break, Kalifah Aganaga said that he spent a lot of money and time while he was chasing his political dream and that consequently had a toll on his music career which was going to different heights before he joined politics.

He says that he was disappointed with the leadership of the National Unity Platform (NUP) for unfairly giving out party tickets to individuals of their choice other than organizing party primaries to let the people decide their favorite candidates. This is the reason he ran as an independent candidate for Lubaga South Constituency in the 2021 elections, but he, unfortunately, lost to Honourable Mukasa Aloysius of the National Unity Platform.

Kalifah Aganaga said that despite the fact that he has no hit songs of late, he has gone on to write many hit songs for fellow artists including “Nakyuuka” by Sheebah, and “Bailamos” by Sheebah as well. That is why he was furious last year when Sheebah did not invite him to her show at Serena Hotel yet he has written good music for her.

Khalifah concluded the show by telling Ugandans that he is now fully back in the industry, he also thanked Ugandans for loving him and said that he has a new song which he will release soon. He begged Ugandans to support his music just like they have done in the past.
