Ghana’s Inaugural Black Star Line Festival 2023

On Friday, January 6, 2023, all roads will lead to Independence Square, Accra Ghana. The West African country and its populace will be treated to the Inaugural Black Star Line Festival courtesy of Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa.

One surprising thing about the concert is that it will be a free concert. Yes, you read that right. The entrance to the concert will be free of charge. It is the first of its kind not only in Ghana but the whole World.

A number of both Ghanaian and International artists are set to perform at the event. Chicago-based rappers Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa will lead the international acts.T- Pain has been confirmed among the performers.

Furthermore, as of Thursday news made rounds of famous US Superstar Rapper Kanye West is in the country. This is an indicator that he could be a surprise performer at the festival since his name is not among the confirmed performers.

Ghanian Hip Hop heavyweight Sarkodie is one of the key home artists slated to perform. Other artists include Erykah Badu, Jeremiah, Tobe Nwigwe, Asakaa Boys, and M.anifest.

What is the Black Star Line Festival???

To begin with, the idea of the Black Star Line Festival was hatched by Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa while the Chicago-based rappers were on vacation in Ghana. Actually, Ghana is Vic Mensa’s ancestry home. Chance loved the vacation, and the history, and boom – the idea came about.

Apparently, the festival is aimed at celebrating global Blackness. It features artists, intellectuals, and influential individuals from around the world.

First, of its kind, Chance hopes to someday bring the Black Star Line Festival to other countries. The key target countries are Jamaica, and Haiti though it is planned to make the Festival global so as to comprehensively celebrate Blackness all over the globe.
