The English Premier League is one of the most famous and competitive Football leagues in the world. As a result, it has had unparalleled commercial success. However, commercial success has often encountered some challenges along the way. Key among the challenges is that some homes watch the premier league using Illegal streams or means.
On paper, the period of 2022 to 2025 international TV rights circle indicates that the premier league revenue will be worth £5.3 billion/ $7.1 billion ( around UGX 22 trillion).
Domestic TV rights are expected to bring in around £5.1 billion/ $6.9 billion ( around UGX 21 trillion). When added up plus other commercial partnerships, the whole English Premier League revenue goes to £10.5 billion/ $14.2 billion ( around UGX 44 trillion). This sum is more than the UGX 37 trillion that was announced as Uganda’s budget for the 2022/23 financial year.
Looking at the expected domestic revenue, which is based on subscriptions and deals within England and its daughter states, it seems the numbers may not be realized. The reason is – over 1000 UK homes watch the premier league using Illegal streams. Thus official subscription channels like Sky Sports and BT Sports are most likely to register losses.

What has been done to end the vice of watching the premier league using illegal streams?
The seriousness of the issue has prompted the UK police to come up with a special operation. This will entail the police visiting 1,000 homes in the country with the aim “ to warn fans that they would face prosecution if they continue to watch premier league matches on illegal streams.”
A number of websites and apps are out there for the public that enables fans to watch bit only football but also TV series and other games. The high subscription by some of the official broadcasting companies has left fans with no choice but to turn to these illegal streams.
However, these illegal streams may be dangerous at some point. There are various dubious adverts displayed. Worst of all, there is a possibility of the sites having spyware and malware that may collect user information or even damage electronic devices.
