Police have arrested and detained the YY bus driver who was recorded on a video driving while texting putting the lives of over 60 passengers at risk of losing their lives.
The driver who is identified as Tenywa Phillip is behind coolers at the traffic police headquarters at Nateete as he awaits to be arraigned in the courts of law to answer charges related to reckless driving.
Following his arrest, the Police applauded the person who took the trouble to record the video and spread the reckless driving that has in the past days seen several lives being lost in deadly car crashes.
The Police also requested passengers to always not keep silent in case of any road indiscipline following the increased road carnage that has been happening lately.
“The Traffic Police Headquarters at Nateete has in custody one Tenywa Phillip who was caught on video texting while driving a YY bus.
We want to applaud the person who recorded the video and urge all of you not to always keep silent in case of any road indiscipline”, Police.
On Monday, the Directorate of traffic took a decision ordering all drivers to have their driver badges reinstated, and all bus owners were instructed to submit particulars of all bus drivers for verification.
“Following the recent bus crashes in the country, the Directorate of Traffic has taken a decision to have driver badges reinstated and all bus owners are hereby instructed to submit particulars of all bus drivers to the @MoWT_Ugandafor verification starting 06th January 2023″.
