Manchester United Come From Behind To Beat Fierce Rivals Man City 2-1

Prior to the game, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola had suggested he had ‘ ridiculous ‘ ideas for the encounter. The Citizens came into this encounter as the overwhelming favorites despite Manchester United’s eight-game winning streak. At 60 minutes, City’s Jack Grealish gave the Premier League defending Champions the lead but Manchester United managed to come from behind to beat fierce rivals 2-1.

Having suffered a humiliating defeat of 6-3 at the hands of Manchester City way back in October, United was not willing to let history repeat itself. This was shown by their great start. Fresh from a league defeat in the Carabao Quarterfinals, Man City seemed still not a team ready to respond to the shocking defeat.

As a result, Marcus Rashford and co were afforded a lot of space and often tried City’s Brazilian Shot Stopper Ederson. In fact, United should have gone into the half-time break with a 2-0 goal advantage but for their wastefulness in the final third.

How Manchester United beat Man City

Coming into the second half, Man City began on a front foot. It seems Pep Guardiola had noticed the weakness in United and ordered his Blue Army to attack those particular areas.

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial was substituted for Antony as the second half started. Martial had appeared to get a knock in the first half. The cameras showed United’s new on-loan signing, Netherlands Forward, Wout Weghorst. Weghorst was not registered early enough to take part in the 189 th derbies between the two teams.

Things appeared to take a gloomy twist at Old Trafford when Man City substitute Jack Grealish headed home from a Kevin De Bruyne cross to give the visitors a lead in the 60 th minute. It seemed like the old times of the ‘ noisy neighbors’ triumphing again were at hand.

However, Manchester United players played as a team with the confidence that it was not yet over. As a result, Brazilian Midfielder Casemiro set up a beautiful through pass that was met by Bruno Fernandes who fired a vicious shot past Ederson in the 78 minutes. The Old Trafford faithful erupted in jubilation.

As if not enough, four minutes later Alejandro Garnacho twisting and turning at the far left let a cross that was tapped in from close range by Marcus Rashford in the 82 minutes. From there onwards, United held on for a valuable three points.

The result leaves Manchester United in the third position at 38 points, one point behind City in the second place. Manchester United next handle Crystal Palace on Wednesday before another mouth-watering encounter with League leaders Arsenal on Sunday.
