Media personality Joan Mulungi has opened up about one of the darkest chapters of her life, revealing that the breakdown of her marriage to journalist Gabriel Buule left her emotionally devastated and drove her to contemplate suicide on four occasions.
Joan and Buule tied the knot on April 11, 2024, and for a time appeared to be one of the media industry’s admired couples, publicly supporting each other through life’s highs and lows while standing together against online criticism.
However, their marriage was short-lived, and reports of their separation quickly spread across social media, sparking widespread public debate and relentless scrutiny.

Speaking during an interview on Sanyuka TV, Joan recalled how the overwhelming attention took a severe emotional toll on her, revealing that she cried continuously for more than 36 hours.
“There is a day I won’t forget that I cried for 36 hours. To stop crying, I had to be asleep. Every time I woke up, I remembered I had problems and then cried again afresh,” she said.
Joan disclosed that the emotional pain became so intense that she considered ending her life four different times.
She explained that one of the hardest parts of the ordeal was seeing the impact the public fallout had on her parents, whom she described as very private people.
“I pictured the parents who struggled to raise me looking through the media and seeing what was happening. My parents are private people, but watching all those things on the internet always made me question myself. The people who know me kept asking how we got there and what we would do, but I kept telling them to extend grace because I didn’t know how it got there. My mother is a strong woman, but I was worried about my dad. He is weak like me, and we cry easily. We cannot handle problems,” she said.
Joan’s revelation comes just days after Gabriel Buule disclosed in a separate interview that the two are in the final stages of officially dissolving their marriage through the courts.
Her candid account has since resonated with many, highlighting the emotional toll that public scrutiny and personal loss can have on an individual’s mental well-being.
