KCCA Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Olive Namazzi has cleared the air on the long-standing perception surrounding Sheraton Gardens, revealing that members of the public are free to access the facility and use it for leisure.
Namazzi, who also serves as the LC5 Woman Lord Councillor for Nakawa West Division and previously served as Kyambogo University Guild President, said the gardens are public property under the management of KCCA, despite their location next to Sheraton Hotel.
According to Namazzi, the fact that the gardens are fenced and frequently host weddings, parties and other private functions should not make the public think that the space belongs to the hotel or is only meant for its guests.

She explained that ordinary city residents can visit the gardens, relax, spend time with their families and enjoy the surroundings, including during weekends.
“Sheraton Gardens seem like they are owned by Sheraton Hotel because people host their weddings and other functions there. However, those are public gardens and anybody is allowed to visit them anytime they want, chill and relax from there. The Sheraton Gardens belong to KCCA, and anyone is free to relax there, even on weekends with their family members,” Namazzi said.
The revelation could come as a surprise to many Kampala residents who have long associated the gardens with Sheraton Hotel and private events.
Namazzi’s remarks therefore put the spotlight back on the gardens as a potential recreational space for ordinary members of the public looking for a quiet place to unwind within the city.
@namazzi71 Please make use of the Sheraton Gardens for leisure and recreation, these spaces are intended to serve as public leisure parks under KCCA, rather than being treated as an extension of the Sheraton Hotel.
