The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) will deploy 537 Military Police personnel to provide security during the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, which begin on October 12, 2026.
The personnel have completed a three-week Examination Security Course at Buyala, Nsujjumpolwe Barracks in Mpigi District, where they were trained in the secure handling, transportation and delivery of examination materials across the country.
The deployment is part of the UPDF’s support to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) in efforts to prevent examination malpractice. The Military Police has been involved in securing national examinations since 2017.
Speaking during the send-off of the first group, Military Police Brigade Commandant Maj Gen William Beinomugisha urged the deployed personnel to execute their duties with integrity, confidentiality, discipline and professionalism.
He warned them against violating examination security procedures, noting that malpractice can undermine the education system by enabling students to obtain good grades without demonstrating the required academic ability.
Beinomugisha said the personnel selected for the assignment were chosen based on their integrity, discipline, dependability, past conduct, commitment, rank and leadership abilities.
He directed them to strictly follow established examination security guidelines and protect the credibility of the examination process throughout the exercise.
“As Military Police, we have to keep the image of the UPDF, to support the wise decision of the leadership from the President and Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, and Military Police as a formation by doing good and changing the narrative to fit in the required performance,” he said.
The commander also warned that any personnel who breach the rules governing the operation would be arrested and prosecuted.
