Singer Alexander Bagonza, popularly known as A Pass, has opened up about his long-standing admiration and support for fellow musician-turned-politician Bobi Wine.
He disclossed that his connection to the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader dates back to his school days.
A Pass has never hidden his admiration for Bobi Wine, and during a recent live broadcast with his fans, he was asked whether he would consider working with the former Ghetto President on a song.
The singer responded enthusiastically, saying he would welcome the opportunity because Bobi Wine was one of his biggest inspirations when he was growing up.
According to A Pass, his schoolmates can attest to how much he admired Bobi Wine at the time, as he frequently mimed the singer’s songs and even defended him during the rivalry between Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool.
“A song with Bobi? Most definitely, because that is my favourite artist. When I was starting music, Bobi Wine was my inspiration. I looked up to him so much, and the people who went to school with me know this. I used to mime his songs a lot, and I’m a big fan,” A Pass said.
He added that his admiration for Bobi Wine was so strong that he would often find himself in arguments with fellow students who supported Bebe Cool.
“I always defended him, but I didn’t even know him in person. We used to be at war with Bebe Cool’s fans at school,” he recalled.
Interestingly, despite growing up as a staunch Bobi Wine supporter, A Pass has had more musical collaborations with Bebe Cool than with his childhood idol.
“The funny thing is, I have worked with Bebe Cool more and have not worked with Bobi Wine in music. It is very interesting how life turns out and how things you do not expect to happen, happen,” he said.
For A Pass, a collaboration with Bobi Wine would therefore be more than just another song—it would be a full-circle moment with one of the artists who inspired him to pursue music in the first place.
