Beauty and the Spins: Meet DJ Alisha, The Extremely Gleaming Rwandese Disk Spinner Working In Uganda

When you think of a DJ, what comes to your mind? An aggressive, rugged, hip hop-style-dressed, turntable-scratching, guy right? But the game is changing in Uganda just like in the rest of the world, with the recent influx of females in the otherwise patrichichal DJ.

DJs light up the nightlife with powerful tracks that brighten up our happy moments. The sight of a female DJ pinning and craftily throwing in sounds is an envy of many. Notwithstanding the Dejaying technology advancement that has happened, the fundamentals that govern the trade hasn’t changed.

While you may suppose female DJs would be some hard-looking females behind the deck as many of their male counterparts, this new and rising lady we are documenting today makes a living from entertaining with music on the wheel of steel and she is anything but rugged. Her name is DJ Alisha.

This very young DJ of Rwandese origin has been turning heads recently in Kampala for her tender, soft and stunning beauty and already proven to have skills that give her male counterparts a run for their money.

She started out her deejaying career in March 2021 at her Uganda residency when she was stuck in the country due to the Covid lockdown with several mixtape sessions she used to upload to her YouTube channel “Kenganda”.

This at first was a way of passing boredom during that lockdown only to be noticed by a top Ugandan Deejay, DJ Roja who invited her to play on NBS TV, a leading TV station in Uganda.

She first came through for the NBS After 5 show and the following day, came for the Saturday Night Live show on 6th June 2020 where she showed us her mixing skills.

So after that exposure, Alisha continued to publish her mixtapes to YouTube but not for leisure this time as she was being contacted for gigs at corporate events in town.

DJ Alisha`s ability to manoeuvre the decks in between different genres such as Hip-hop, Amapiano, Pop and Afro puts her in a class of her own. From her skills on the mix to her outstanding beauty, DJ Alicia is a force to reckon with as being one of the best female DJs in Uganda.

DJ Alisha’s talent gets spotted again.

While mixing at the virtual Nyege Nyege Festival which was aired on NBS TV in October last year, she was spotted by one of the leading entertainment record labels in Uganda, Black Market Records.

Alisha was officially unveiled by the label at its offices in Kampala, something that would take her professional career to the next level.

But her stay at the label was short as she later quit to pursue her solo Deejaying career.

Luckily, she was spotted again by a leading radio station in Uganda, Galaxy FM that hired her this year to entertain its listeners on the Twazikoze Monday Madness show.

Her revolutionary work of skills behind the mixing equipment has seen her rise in popularity. Today event planners are yearning for her on the list of the itinerary. The lucrative gigs she keeps bagging have taken her to far tows of the top djs in Kampala.

The young DJ charges her client depending on the location of the gig, duration of the session and other related services that come with the profession. She insists that spinning is an art and the Dj should bring out his/her mastery in showcasing her wheels of steel talent.
