Desire Luzinda Listed Among Top 8 Historical Figures That Ruled Kampala City.

Kampala City has always been known to be an entertainment hub since back in the day.

As a result, many people have come onto the social scene, and many things have happened, that used to excite people but today, these people no longer vibe in doing things they used to do back in the day. Everything has its own time and just like the celebrity status, the celebrities of the past twenty-five years are no longer the ones of today and the celebrities of today might not be the ones of the next 20 years to come.

In this article, we’ll examine the renowned people from Kampala City throughout the past ten years.

Some of Them were great footballers, others were TV and Radio show hosts, and some were musicians, Audio producers, socialites, dramatists, etc.

MARY LUSWATA.
Mary LUSWATA used to be a TV show host working at Urban TV in 2014 with her famous gossip show called “Sqoop on Sqoop” In this show, she made a name for herself thereby having many friends and enemies in equal measure.

Once it came to the hottest gossip around town, Mary LUSWATA was the name in everybody’s mouth. Not so long, she went to England and came back to Uganda with a short stint at Kansanga-based Galaxy FM. After that, nothing much is known about her today.

DAVID OBUA.

David Obua is one of the most flamboyant Uganda crane footballers that Uganda has known. Apart from his success in Football, playing for clubs like Express FC and Police FC in Uganda, South African side KAIZER CHIEFS, and Hearts FC in Scotland, Obua was also stylish off the pitch. He loved to party and was the crush of many ladies.

He is also rumored to be one of the wealthiest footballers with a multi Million mansion in the upscale suburb of Munyonyo and a string of businesses in town. Obua has since gone silent after his retirement from professional soccer years ago. He has on some occasions been working with Supersport as an analyst during the African cup of nations.

JAMES ONEN aka FATBOY.
Fatboy is arguably one of the most intelligent and famous radio show hosts Uganda has known. He needs no introduction, having worked at Sanyu FM for over 20 years. He was known for his intriguing debates on air with his female co-hosts which invoked mixed feelings among his listeners. A staunch atheist and boy child advocate, Fatboy always loved to tickle the minds of his followers.

In 2021, he, unfortunately, lost his job at Sanyu in FM where he was among the most highly paid. He started his own online station called RX Radio and is now a father to a baby girl.

JOHN KEN LUKYAMUZI “The man” Ken Lukyamuzi will always go down in history as one of the most eloquent Legislators in Uganda, who has gone on to win Parliamentary awards to that effect. Having represented Lubaga south Constituency in Parliament since 2001, with a break in 2006, when the government kicked him out for failure of declaring his wealth as required by the law. His daughter, Susan Nampijja was elected for this position. However, Lukyamuzi bounced back in 2011 after winning the case in courts of law. In 2016, he lost to famed

comedian Kato Lubwama and has since gone into silence, politically, only running a few errands as President of the Conservative party (CP).

SAM OMALA.
Sam Omala is a Police officer who gained fame by clamping down on opposition rallies within Kampala metropolitan area. The times of 2011 during the “Walk to Work” protests, Omala gave Kizza Besigye and FDC a very hard time by frustrating their political activities. He was also famous for his funny comments and Luganda sayings during interviews on the media, particularly at NTV’s comic news segment “Zungulu” He has since gone silent.

NASH WONDER.
Nash Wonder real name Enock Kubeerwa, was one of the best record producers in town after producing great hit songs such as “Ice cream” and “Twesaana” by Sheebah, “Gyayo nyekeyo” by Ziza Bafana, “Ekyaama” and “Helena” by Goodlyfe and many others. Nash Wonder left Monster studios in Nyanama after disagreeing with his boss and has since not produced any mega hits for while now.

KLEITH KYATUHAIRE.
Kleith Kyatuhaire used to be a TV presenter with NTV, hosting a Teens show called “T NATION” alongside Sheilla Cathy Gashumba in 2014. She used to be good at her craft and she used to set fashion trends for many of the students in high school then. Her composure and good command of the English language kept many people glued to their silver screens. Kleith has since taken a break from media.

Desire Luzinda is a singer and songwriter who was so famous in Uganda due to her nice songs and lovely voice. She used to be one of the most pretty and attractive hardworking ladies in Kampala City. At one time she was linked to city mayor Nasser Ssebaggala. Desire got misunderstandings with her lover, sending her into a musical break, only to return with a hit song “Ekitone” She went to the USA with her daughter and returned to Uganda to introduce the lover of her life, Levixone, the gospel artiste in Uganda.

Other people who have since taken a break away from the public space include Sylvia Owori, Sue Ochola, Meddie Ssentongo, former Miss Uganda Ella Nantumbwe, Grace Nakimera, and many others. Many have since joined other businesses, some joined politics, others went into politics while others have since gone broke. We wish them well wherever they are.
