Ugandan singer Jowy Landa has opened up about the difficult circumstances she went through during the COVID-19 lockdown, revealing that her former manager turned her into a “housewife” when she was only 19 years old.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Allan Cruz on the Cruz Xclusive YouTube channel, Jowy explained that she had changed management shortly before the pandemic struck, leaving her music career at a standstill for nearly a year.
“Imagine you’ve just changed management, then COVID hits for about a year and you’ve not released any new music,” she recalled.

With movement restricted and no new music being released, Jowy said she was forced to take on household responsibilities she had never handled before. She had to learn how to cook, wash dishes and do laundry despite having little or no experience with the chores.
“I cooked, did the dishes, the laundry too and even got wounds on my hands,” she said.
Jowy revealed that the experience was particularly challenging because she was only 19 and had never experienced anything similar.
At one point, she considered leaving and returning to her mother, but the lockdown restrictions made it difficult for her to travel.
The singer also alleged that her time under the former management was marred by domestic violence, claiming that she was physically assaulted.
“My mum even reached an extent and wanted to arrest them because the worst part was that they used to hit me too, which was crazy,” she narrated.
Reflecting on her journey, Jowy urged people not to judge her based solely on where she is today without considering the struggles she endured along the way.
She pointed to her current ability to financially support her mother as a sign of how far she has come, noting that she can now comfortably send her UGX 1 million.
