France End Morocco’s Fairy-tale World Cup Journey

On a Wednesday night when the whole of Africa and the Arab world backed Morocco to beat France, things did not go as planned. Despite the fact it was Morocco’s first time making it to the Semi-final, this did not deter France from ending Morocco’s Fairy-tale world cup Journey.

Nick-named Africa’s Giant Killers for their victories over Football Giants Belgium, Portugal and the rest, Morocco couldn’t repeat the trick on France. However, Morocco will go down honourably after putting up a strong fight against the defending Champions.

Boosting a strong defence that had conceded only once in their last five games, Morocco had enough confidence coming into the game. Unfortunately, France’s Left back Theo Hernandez struck a fine goal in the fifth minute to disrupt Morocco’s game plan.

The Atlas Lions of Africa fought back tooth and nail. In fact, they had a number of decent clear-cut chances to make the scoreline level. Things just didn’t work out for them. One may say Morocco was just unlucky.

As if not enough, France’s 24-year Frankfurt Forward, Randal Kolo Muani came on as a substitute in the 79th minute and scored with 44 seconds. This summed it up. The fairy tale world cup Journey was over and it was not a “ happily ever moment.”

Randal Kolo of France came on as a substitute in the 79th minute and scored with 44 seconds.

This means that France will take on Lionel Messi and Argentina in the World Cup Final. The game will be played on Sunday 18 December 2022 at 18:00 EAT.

France’s win earned their manager Didier Deschamps his 14th win at World Cup. This helped move Deschamps up the leaderboard for most manager wins at the tournament.

As if not enough, on Sunday Didier Deschamps will become only the sixth person to manage in multiple World Cup finals. Only one of the other fines has won both. This was Italy’s Vittorio Pozzo in 1934 and 1938.

France and Argentina are meeting for the fourth time at the World Cup – and for the second straight tournament in the knockout rounds. Of the previous three meetings, Argentina won twice though the recent meeting was in 2018 which ended 4-3 in favour of France.

Furthermore, France is the fifth defending champion to reach the final and the first to do so since Brazil in 1998. The only other team to win consecutively the World Cup are Italy, doing so in 1934 and 1938. Brazil managed the feat in 1958 and 1962.

Super sub-Frankfurt Forward Randal Kolo Muani scored the third-quickest goal for a substitute for a world cup game. After coming on in the 79th minute, it took the 24-year-old just 44 seconds to score.
