LaDonna Osborn Praises Museveni’s 40-Year Legacy, Calls Uganda’s Transformation ‘Historic’

Wild dogs and vultures were eating the bodies. I remember that very well. War is not pretty.

Evangelist Dr LaDonna Osborn has praised President Yoweri Museveni for what she described as his historic contribution to liberating Uganda, restoring peace and transforming the country over the past 40 years.

Speaking about her experience in Uganda during the turbulent 1980s, Osborn recalled the devastating state of the country at the time, particularly Kampala, where she said buildings were riddled with bullet holes, streets were unpaved and full of potholes, and curfews were imposed at night.

She also remembered witnessing people being shot in the streets and bodies left exposed, describing the situation as a painful reminder of the realities of war.

“I was here for seven weeks, and you know what was going on in Uganda in ’85. You were on your way coming in to liberate the people and to establish a peaceful government,” Osborn said.

“It’s difficult to explain, but we saw buildings that were all bullet-shattered. There weren’t any paved streets in Kampala. There were big potholes, curfews at night and people being shot in the streets. Wild dogs and vultures were eating the bodies. I remember that very well. War is not pretty.”

Osborn acknowledged that younger generations may not fully understand what Uganda went through during that period, urging them to appreciate the progress made since then.

“When people criticize, I remember. Young people don’t know what it was like, but what you have brought over 40 years is historic,” she added.

She further acknowledged the challenges that come with leadership, saying that governing a country requires making difficult decisions, particularly during periods of conflict and reconstruction.

“I can’t speak to every decision made. War is not easy, leadership is tough. You have to make a million tough and difficult decisions. I understand that, but I see the fruit and thank God,” she said.

Osborn also highlighted peace, education, healthcare and freedom as key priorities for any government, while commending Uganda for allowing people to express different views and practise their faith.

“The priorities of any government are peace, education, health and freedom. I love that even critical voices can be heard. Freedom of speech is important, but freedom of religion is very important, and we see that here,” she said.
