Police in Iganga have arrested a 35-year-old man who was allegedly found in possession of 98 suspected counterfeit US$100 notes.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended while attempting to deposit the money at a branch of Finance Trust Bank, where the suspicious notes were detected, prompting his arrest.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact charges that will be preferred against the suspect, with investigators indicating that more details about the case are expected to be available by Monday.
Cases involving counterfeit foreign currency are not uncommon in Uganda, with several suspects having previously been arrested, prosecuted, and arraigned before the courts over similar offenses.
Police are continuing with investigations to establish the source of the suspected fake currency and whether other individuals may be linked to the case.
