It is not the first time this kind of situation has come up. In a 2012 New Vision article, a story is told of how popular Musician Joseph Mayanja a.k.a Jose Chameleon had received an Shs.14m tax invoice from URA.
A Shs. 14 million tax invoice from URA had been received by musician Joseph Mayanja, aka Jose Chameleon.
In response to the invoice, the Superstar Musician wondered how the taxing authority had computed the amount. The icing on the cake was his comment about being taxed:
“ My voice is a natural gift from God, why do you want me to pay for my voice?”, a vexed Chameleon wondered.

URA’s blog, The Taxman explains entertainment as a form of activity that holds the attention and interest of an audience or gives pleasure and delight.
As a result, the key entertainers that are urged to pay taxes include Authors, performers, Artists, producers, promoters, event managers, recreational space owners, bar owners, and hotel owners among others.
