Singer Vinka, real name Veronica Lugya, has opened up about the emotional toll she suffered after her husband, Nelson Witta, lost the recently concluded election for the Isingiro West County parliamentary seat.
Witta was nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest for the seat as an independent candidate. Despite making it to the general election, he was ultimately defeated, ending his bid for Parliament.
Speaking during a recent interview, Vinka admitted that the outcome hit her hard, revealing that she broke down and cried after learning that her husband had lost.

“My man is my favorite politician and when he lost the election, I felt so bad; so bad it broke my heart so much. I cried so much but we are very optimistic,” Vinka said.
Despite the disappointment, the All Over You singer said she and her husband remain optimistic about the future and are not considering giving up on their political ambitions.
“Life has to go on and we are still young. Why would he quit?” she added.
Vinka also defended her husband against those who may view his loss as a failure, pointing out that this was the first time he had progressed beyond the primary stage in his attempts to contest for the same parliamentary seat.
According to the singer, Witta had previously failed to make it past the primaries, making his latest campaign a significant achievement despite the eventual loss.
“What people do not understand is that it was the very first time that he got to that level of contesting for the Member of Parliament post. He had never got that far; the last time he stopped at the primaries,” she explained.
“This time was the very first time to get there but people just talk because they do not know. But it is okay; they do not have to know.”
Vinka’s comments show that despite the heartbreak caused by the election defeat, she remains firmly behind her husband and believes his political journey is far from over.
