Anthony Kushaba, a communications officer with Ntungamo District Local Government and former Uganda Radio Network (URN) journalist, has been found dead in his rented room in Ntungamo town, hours after spending an evening with friends.
Kushaba, 36, reportedly failed to report to work on Friday, prompting colleagues to search for him after they were unable to reach him by phone.
According to his workmate Eng. Prosper Butubuura, Kushaba had attended his aunt’s burial in Nyabihoko on Thursday before having dinner with colleagues and later driving home at around 10:00 p.m.
Concern grew the following day when he did not report to work. Colleagues eventually went to his residence, where they found the door locked from inside and received no response.
Police were called, and the door was later forced open, leading to the discovery of Kushaba’s body lying on his bed.
Kushaba had spent the previous evening with friends at a pork joint in Buhumuriro, where those who were with him described him as cheerful and in good spirits.
A postmortem conducted at Itojo Hospital reportedly indicated ruptured blood vessels. According to Butubuura, doctors linked the condition to Kushaba’s death.
There were no immediate indications that the death was connected to threats or foul play. His colleagues said he had not reported receiving threats, although he had previously raised concerns over workplace matters.
Kushaba began his journalism career in 2009 and worked with several media outlets, including BFM, Voice of Kigezi and URN, where he served as the Mbarara bureau chief before joining Ntungamo District Local Government.
Colleagues remembered him as an outspoken and straightforward person who often advocated for workers’ concerns.
