Singer Grace Nakimera opened up about the painful reason she ended her decade-long relationship with Norwegian photographer Andre Ringen, the father of her only child.
The former couple were together for more than 10 years and welcomed a daughter before eventually going their separate ways.
Despite the breakup, Nakimera says she looks back at their marriage as a beautiful chapter of her life, adding that both of them have since moved on while continuing to raise their daughter together.

“I had a wonderful marriage and I had a child with my husband, but at some point we separated. I moved on with my life and he moved on with his as well. We raised a very beautiful daughter,” Nakimera said during an interview with Deep Talk.
The singer noted that relationships do not always end the way people initially imagine, explaining that many people eventually find themselves separating from partners they once believed they would spend the rest of their lives with.
“Most people are not with their first partners because things happen. The partners we start with are not the ones we end up with, even when you imagine things would work out at the start,” she added.
But what exactly drove Nakimera out of the marriage?
According to the singer, the major issue was irreconcilable differences in their dreams, ambitions and vision for the future.
Nakimera described herself as a big dreamer who likes to visualise her life decades ahead. She said that while she could see a future with her partner stretching 20 or 30 years into the future, she eventually realised they were not looking in the same direction.
“I’m the kind of person who is a very big dreamer. That means when I see myself with you, I see the future 20, 30 years from now, grandchildren; I visualise all that. I was seeing afar but he was not,” she explained.
Nakimera also suggested that her former husband was attracted to her celebrity image and glamour, but that alone was not enough to sustain the relationship.
“There was this glamour about me that he liked. This Grace; the star, but not the dreams we had to put in place,” she said.
For Nakimera, being in a relationship meant more than simply being in love. She wanted to build something meaningful with her partner and work towards shared goals.
She admitted that reaching a certain stage in life without seeing those plans taking shape became emotionally exhausting and eventually affected the relationship.
“Sometimes you want to build something with your partner and when you get to a certain age and there is nothing going on, it is very draining and you lose it,” she said.
Although the marriage ended, Nakimera appears to have made peace with the decision, with both former partners moving forward while remaining connected through their daughter.
