Musician Eddy Kenzo has addressed claims that he is behind bloggers and other creatives who have been demanding payment from fellow musician Bebe Cool over campaign-related work.
The controversy stems from complaints by several artists, bloggers, TikTokers and other creatives who reportedly worked under Bebe Cool’s team during Uganda’s recent presidential campaign activities and have since been publicly demanding payment.
Kenzo, who led a separate team of creatives during the campaign, has denied sending or orchestrating the group’s demands against Bebe Cool.
In media comments and video clips circulating on Wednesday, September 16, Kenzo said he sympathises with the affected creatives, acknowledging that some of them worked alongside him during the nationwide campaign trail.
He said it “hurts” to see them complaining because they “worked for our president and did a good job.”
However, Kenzo explained that he cannot simply intervene in the matter because the creatives operated under a different team. He also pointed to the existing history of tension between him and Bebe Cool as another reason for keeping his distance from the dispute.
Kenzo said he would be willing to offer guidance if the affected creatives formally approached him in his capacity as Senior Presidential Adviser on Creatives, but noted that he has not received any official complaint from them.
The singer has also appeared in related clips reacting to some of the demands made by TikTok bloggers, including moments in which he laughed at aspects of their complaints and suggested that the money they are demanding may not be paid.
The dispute has attracted wider attention within Uganda’s entertainment industry, coming shortly after Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba publicly called for an end to attacks against Bebe Cool and urged those involved to resolve their disagreements peacefully.
