Swangz Avenue singer Vinka, born Veronica Lugya and popularly known as The Boss Manja, has opened up about the advantages of being signed to a record label, saying it gives artists opportunities they would otherwise struggle to access.
The singer explained that a good record label plays a crucial role in developing an artist into a marketable brand, creating valuable industry connections, and opening doors to partnerships and sponsorship opportunities.
However, she stressed that while a label can provide the platform, it is ultimately the artist’s responsibility to make the most of those opportunities.

“A record label is going to open different doors for you. How you get in is your problem. The record label is going to do very many things, but how everything ends up, you as the artist, are the problem,” Vinka said.
She added that one of the greatest strengths of a record label is its ability to connect the right people and create opportunities that elevate an artist’s career.
“The label will open doors; how you get in is up to you. The label connects the dots, and for me that’s the beauty of a record label. It puts you on.”
Vinka also emphasized the importance of personal branding, noting that an artist must cultivate a positive image if they hope to attract endorsements and long-term partnerships.
“As a brand, how have you branded yourself as an artist? Do brands want to associate with you? That too.”
