Former Second Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. Moses Ali, has passed away. He was pronounced dead at Nakasero Hospital at 4:25 p.m.
Born on April 5, 1939, the veteran Ugandan politician and current Member of Parliament for Adjumani West, breathed his last aged 87.
The news of his passing was confirmed by Captain Mike Mukula, who shared a lengthy tribute on his X account (formerly Twitter), paying homage to the veteran statesman and freedom fighter.
In his statement, Captain Mukula praised Gen. Moses Ali for his immense contribution to Uganda’s struggle for peace, national unity, stability, and national reconstruction.

He described him as a courageous soldier, an astute leader, and an elder statesman whose wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to serving Uganda inspired generations of leaders and citizens.
Mukula also extended his heartfelt condolences to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Government and people of Uganda, the bereaved family, the people of Adjumani District, the West Nile sub-region, and all Ugandans mourning what he described as an immense national loss.
Following the announcement of his death, messages of condolence poured in from across the country as leaders and members of the public remembered Gen. Moses Ali for his decades of dedicated public service and patriotism.
Details of the funeral arrangements are expected to be announced later as the family and government prepare an official programme.
In his tribute, Captain Mukula wrote in part:
“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I have received the sad news of the passing of my dear friend, distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, and statesman, General Moses Ali, who departed this life today at 4:25 p.m. at Nakasero Hospital. General Moses Ali devoted his life to the service of Uganda. His contribution to the struggle for peace, national unity, stability, and reconstruction will forever remain engraved in the history of our nation.”
He concluded by praying that Allah forgives Gen. Moses Ali’s shortcomings, grants him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus, and gives strength and comfort to his family and the nation during this difficult time.
