Former Koboko District Council Speaker George Ambe has died at the age of 78 after spending more than 16 days in the intensive care unit, according to family members.
Ambe was a veteran local government leader and respected elder in Koboko District, West Nile, where he served as district council speaker and remained involved in community affairs for several years.
He was also listed as chairperson and treasurer of Smart Change Uganda, a community-based organisation involved in initiatives across northern Uganda, including Arua and Koboko.
Ambe remained active in community initiatives in his later years, earning recognition for his involvement in local administration and development.
His death marks the loss of a long-serving community leader who played a role in the leadership and development of Koboko District.
Details of his funeral arrangements and tributes from district leaders and other public figures had not been widely released by Thursday. More information is expected from the family and local authorities as preparations for his burial continue.
