Former Butambala County MP and National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President for Buganda, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, has secured his freedom after the Butambala Chief Magistrates’ Court granted him cash bail of Shs3 million.
Chief Magistrate Aminah Wahab granted Kivumbi bail after he fulfilled the conditions set by court. His sureties were also ordered to execute non-cash bonds of Shs2 million each.
Kivumbi, 55, is facing fresh charges of inciting violence and managing an unlawful society, which he has denied.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences were committed on July 9, 2026, when Kivumbi addressed a public gathering in Butambala.
The State alleges that his statements encouraged members of the public to commit acts of violence against government officials and to support efforts to overthrow the government.
The charges came shortly after Kivumbi had been granted bail in a separate terrorism case before the International Crimes Division of the High Court.
He and other accused persons in that case had been on remand for months before the court granted bail on July 9.
Prosecution alleges that Kivumbi made the statements forming the basis of the fresh charges on the same day he secured bail in the terrorism case.
The latest bail development brings another twist to Kivumbi’s ongoing legal battles, which have attracted considerable attention from his NUP colleagues and supporters.
He vowed to continue fighting for what he believes is right for the public.
