Singer Jowy Landa, real name Joan Namugerwa, has made a blunt revelation about her relationships in the music industry, admitting that she has no friends among fellow musicians because, according to her, everyone is simply looking out for themselves.
The singer made the revelation during a recent interview, where she opened up about why she prefers to keep her distance from other artistes and focus entirely on her career.
According to Jowy, Uganda’s music industry is full of people who know each other and maintain cordial relationships in public, but she does not believe most of those relationships amount to genuine friendship.
Jowy said she learned this lesson the hard way and eventually decided to withdraw from the social circles of fellow artistes and concentrate on her own music.
“I learned that people do not love themselves in this industry. I learnt that the hard way and decided to stay at home. Artists do not love each other and when they meet, they fake it. Right now, I can tell you that I’m just doing my music,” she said.
The singer’s comments come after her own experience in the industry, including her time in a girl group alongside Pinky, Nandor Love and Ava Peace, a chapter that eventually came to an end.
Jowy now says that experience taught her enough to know that she would not want to spend that much time closely attached to fellow musicians again.
For now, the “Muwala” hitmaker appears determined to keep her circle small, stay in her lane and let her music speak for itself — even if that means walking the industry journey largely on her own.
