Works and Transport Minister Hon. Fred Byamukama has informed Parliament’s Committee on Physical Infrastructure that six engineers have been dismissed from their positions.

While appearing before the committee, Byamukama revealed that he received a letter from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the morning of Monday, July 20, confirming the dismissal of the engineers over alleged irregularities in several major road infrastructure projects.

“As I was leaving my office, I saw a letter from President Museveni sacking six engineers. He is accusing them over the Busega–Mpigi, Mubende–Fort Portal, and Masaka–Mutukula road projects, among many others. We are happy that the Head of State is also stepping in to support the different investigating agencies,” Byamukama said.

The minister stressed that the ministry remains committed to executing its mandate and fighting corruption, regardless of delays in investigations.

“Even when others delay, our role is to implement. What I must say is that we are not protecting the corrupt, nor are the people here supporting corruption. We are here to deliver our mandate,” he added.

However, Byamukama did not reveal the identities of the dismissed engineers, leaving the public awaiting the official release of their names.
