Rev. Fr. Charles Oyo Amooti has set the record straight regarding Prince George Desmond Kamurasi’s decision to decline the Tooro Kingdom throne, clarifying that the prince was among several names considered for the succession but opted out because of other responsibilities.
According to Rev. Fr. Amooti, several potential candidates were approached during the process, but some declined the opportunity after considering the responsibilities and commitments they already had.
“We had a number of names. Others were contacted and they declined because they had other responsibilities. So, someone has to accept and say, ‘Yes, I will, and I’m going to make this happen,’” he explained.
He further clarified that one of the key considerations was finding an individual who was willing to accept and formally take on the responsibilities associated with the Tooro throne.
“One of the criteria we had was that someone who had been proposed or selected, had to accept and confirm taking over the responsibility, which is okay. Prince George declined because he had other responsibilities he has to undertake, and that is his right,” Rev. Fr. Amooti stated.
The clarification comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding the succession of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, whose death has left the Tooro throne vacant and triggered intense interest in the process of identifying his successor.
