Nsangi Secondary School has apologised to media practitioners following backlash over a viral video in which some students called on veteran journalists to retire and give younger talent a chance.
The video, which has since been deleted, attracted criticism from several media personalities who described the students’ remarks as disrespectful towards some of Uganda’s prominent journalists.
In response, the school administration issued an apology, distancing the institution from the comments and pledging disciplinary action against the students involved.
In its statement, the school explained that it encourages learners to nurture their talents and explore their abilities through various projects and challenges. However, it acknowledged that the students had crossed the line during one of their media engagements.
“However, it is very unfortunate that during one of the media engagements, the students went overboard and insulted some of the key media personalities in Uganda, as reflected in the video making rounds on social media,” the statement read.
The school expressed regret over the incident and assured media practitioners that such an occurrence would not happen again.

“We are truly sorry about this unfortunate development and pledge that the same will not happen again. Stern disciplinary action will be taken against the perpetrators,” the administration stated.
It also appealed to the affected journalists to forgive the students and the institution.
“We kindly request forgiveness from the key media practitioners in the spotlight,” the statement added.
The incident has sparked debate about how students can be encouraged to express themselves and showcase their creativity while maintaining respect for established professionals.
What exactly is this Nsangi Secondary School teaching or promoting by exposing students to content that ridicules people’s brands and the hard work they’ve put into building them? Then posting on their own tiktok page?? Is this the kind of conduct our schools should be encouraging?
@Educ_SportsUg , is this acceptable? I don’t think so! The school should take down the content and issue a public apology. Education should instil discipline, respect and responsibility, not encourage students to ridicule the efforts of others.
