Event organiser and promoter Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abtex, has suspended Next Media from covering any of his upcoming events, citing unresolved misunderstandings between the two parties.
The decision follows claims that Next Media declined to cover Lydia Jazmine’s recent concert after the singer allegedly turned down an invitation to perform at one of the media company’s events.
Abtex says he was unhappy with what he described as “familiarity” being brought into the business relationship, arguing that media coverage should not be tied to whether an artist performs at a particular company’s event.

“Next Media never return to my events. These guys brought in familiarity when they claimed that they were not going to cover Lydia Jazmine’s concert because she declined to perform at one of their shows. Is it a MUST that someone has to perform for them at their shows,” Abtex said.
The promoter also accused the media group of requiring artists to sign agreements related to the promotion of the MTN-AfroMobile app, questioning such arrangements in an increasingly digital media environment.
“Today, a person has the right to record an event and upload it on any online platform and earn from it,” he said.
Abtex clarified that his decision applies to Next Media brands, specifically mentioning NBS TV and Sanyuka TV.
“When I say Next Media, I mean Sanyuka TV and NBS TV, and soon they will receive the formal writing from my lawyers. Don’t ever cover any event that I will organise,” he added.
Abtex further dismissed the notion that promoters depend entirely on media houses to attract audiences, arguing that event organisers invest their own resources into organising and promoting shows.
“Those guys have a thinking that they help us, but personally, I organise my events, promote them, and then the fans stay glued to their TV sets to watch the content,” he said.
