It is a dark day for Uganda’s entertainment and media industry following the unfortunate death of veteran dramatist and playwright Alex Mukulu.
The devastating news of his passing has left many industry stakeholders in shock and disbelief, with fans, colleagues, and fellow creatives mourning the loss of one of the country’s respected theatre practitioners.
The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed. It is hoped that the family will, in due course, provide more details regarding his passing and communicate the funeral arrangements.

Alex Mukulu will be remembered for his remarkable contribution to Uganda’s theatre and entertainment industry, as well as his strict and uncompromising character as a judge on various talent search programmes.
He became particularly memorable during the Yolesa Ekitone editions, where his tough judging style and high standards made him a distinctive figure on the show. His sharp assessments and no-nonsense approach left a lasting impression on both contestants and viewers.
Beyond his judging roles, Mukulu played a significant part in nurturing and mentoring young artists, passing on his knowledge, experience, and teachings to a new generation of performers.
His contribution to Uganda’s theatre and media industry, together with his remarkable and unrelenting character, will be greatly missed.
