Singer Cindy Sanyu has ruled out retiring from the music industry, saying her career is only beginning to take shape.
Cindy dismissed the suggestions that she is considering retirement, explaining that artists do not necessarily leave the music industry when they retire. Instead, they can transition into other roles such as mentoring, songwriting, or management during a chat with BBS Telefayina
“We all retire, but retirement doesn’t mean leaving the industry. Some people can retire into mentoring, some can retire into writing, into managing; all that can be retirement,” she said
Over the weekend, Cindy added an international accolade to her growing collection after winning the Best Reggae/Dancehall Artist category at the Basadi in Music Awards in South Africa for her song Nayise Naye.
She became the first Ugandan in the four-year history of the awards to win the
accolade. Cindy travelled to South Africa for the prestigious ceremony with all expenses covered by the organizers.
With retirement seemingly far from her plans and her music gaining recognition beyond Uganda, Cindy said she intends to capitalize on the momentum by expanding her reach across the continent.
“It is too early for me to quit everything. It is just the beginning, especially with the international recognition. I plan on capitalizing on it. If we can have an African tour next year, that is what I’m looking at right now,” she said.
