Singer Joan Namugerwa, popularly known as Jowy Landa, has revealed that she is already planning to welcome her first child, announcing that she expects to get pregnant within the next two years.
The singer says she has even informed her management team about her plans, warning them to factor motherhood into her career plans because, sooner rather than later, she will be taking a break to give birth.
“I’m thinking of being so serious, like in two years. That’s when I think of having a child and I’ve already told my management about it. In whatever they do, they must know that I’m going to get pregnant,” Jowy said.
Jowy, however, insists that she is not rushing her music career or feeling pressured by the achievements of other female artists.
According to the singer, she is doing music because she genuinely loves it, and she does not believe motherhood will derail her career.
“By the way, I do music and not under any pressure. I’m just doing something that I want and love so much. I don’t think there is something that can make me lag behind. Sheebah left and went to give birth and returned doing her thing on the top of her game.”
Although she referenced fellow singer Sheebah Karungi as an example of an artist who successfully returned to music after childbirth, Jowy was quick to clarify that Sheebah is not her inspiration for having a child.
Instead, she says she views motherhood as an important part of a woman’s life and is determined to experience it despite the challenges that come with childbirth.
“My inspiration doesn’t come from Sheebah but as a woman, you have to give birth and when you don’t give birth, you get complications at a later stage. Giving birth pains but I’ve to give birth at any cost.”
And if her plans go according to schedule, Jowy says she will not be taking any chances when it comes to getting help after welcoming her baby.
“At the time I give birth, I will need four house helps to help me.”
With her two-year baby plan now out in the open, Jowy Landa appears ready to balance motherhood with her music career when the time comes.
