Uganda has officially entered the Miss Universe system, and Mitchelle Daka is the woman making history as the 29-year-old model and entrepreneur from Budaka District was crowned the inaugural Miss Universe Uganda during a glamorous grand finale held Saturday night at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
Daka emerged victorious after battling 14 other finalists for the historic crown and will now carry the Ugandan flag at the international Miss Universe competition later this year.
The competition, organised by Joram Model Management, initially attracted about 25 contestants before the organisers narrowed the field down to 15 finalists representing different parts of Uganda.
After competing in cultural wear, swimwear, evening wear and question-and-answer sessions, Daka emerged as the ultimate winner.
Her victory also earned her the Multimedia Queen of the Journey Award, recognising her strong online engagement throughout the competition.
The new Miss Universe Uganda walked away with Shs24 million and a Toyota Wish, adding a major reward to an already historic achievement.
Her win now opens a completely new chapter for Uganda, which will participate in the global Miss Universe competition for the first time.
The upcoming international contest will also be significant globally as it marks the 75th edition of Miss Universe.
