Socialite and entrepreneur Susan Makula Bujjingo has urged women to know their worth and avoid putting their happiness entirely in the hands of men.
Speaking at the Beauty Beyond The Scars event last night, Makula, now a mother of two, challenged women to question why they become emotionally devastated over men who have not yet achieved certain levels of stability.
“Let’s uplift ourselves. Show your worth. Why would you cry for someone who’s still renting? Let’s cry for people who have built houses.”
Makula clarified that her remarks were not intended to disrespect men who rent homes, but rather to encourage women to consider stability and personal progress when choosing partners.
According to Makula, women can sometimes attach too much of their emotional wellbeing to relationships, even when the relationship does not provide the permanence they desire.
She argued that a man who rents can potentially move from one place to another, leaving a woman without the sense of stability she may be looking for.
“Some women have only a key to the man’s house and act like they are holding his heart, yet he’s still renting. You won’t heal that way.”
Makula further encouraged women to put value on themselves, pursue personal growth and build their own sense of fulfilment rather than making a partner the sole source of their happiness.
