Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has flagged off Uganda’s national team ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The multi-sport event will run for 10 days, from July 23 to August 2, with athletes competing for gold, silver, and bronze medals across various disciplines.
Uganda heads into this year’s edition with a proud Commonwealth Games history, having won 58 medals since making its debut at the 1954 Games in Vancouver.
The delegation flagged off by the Prime Minister includes athletes competing in Athletics, Boxing, Women’s 3×3 Basketball, Cycling, Netball, Para Powerlifting, Para Swimming, Swimming, Weightlifting, and Judo.

However, Nabbanja expressed concern over the size of the official delegation after learning that 30 officials would be traveling alongside the athletes. She questioned why such a large number of officials were being facilitated for the Games and called for better planning in future international competitions.
The Prime Minister urged sports administrators to prioritize increasing the number of athletes representing Uganda rather than expanding the number of officials accompanying the team.
She also encouraged the athletes to represent the country with pride, discipline, and determination, expressing confidence that they can return home with medals.
Uganda will be represented by a team of 58 athletes competing across 10 sporting disciplines at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
