The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Parliamentary Caucus has dismissed reports claiming that Hon. Denis Adim Enap was duly elected as the party president during a delegates’ conference.

The claims suggested that longtime UPC leader Hon. Jimmy Akena had been replaced as party president. However, the caucus has strongly refuted the reports, insisting that Akena remains the legitimate leader of the party.

Speaking on behalf of the caucus, Chairperson Hon. Eunice Apio emphasized that the UPC’s leadership can only be determined through the party’s constitutional processes.

“No individual, pressure group, political association, or external organization has the authority to appoint or impose leadership on the Uganda People’s Congress Party. The affairs of the party shall be conducted solely in accordance with its constitution and the laws of Uganda,” Apio said.

Maruzi County MP Hon. Peter Abong Achuda also rejected Enap’s claim, stating that he did not complete the constitutional procedures required to become party president.

“Denis Adim Enap did not complete the due process for election as UPC president as enshrined in the party constitution. He was not legally elected UPC party president,” Achuda said.

The caucus further declared that it would not recognize any leadership imposed outside the party’s constitutional framework.

“This Parliamentary Caucus does not recognize and will not recognize any purported leadership imposed upon the party by a third party or by persons acting outside the constitutional framework of the party,” Apio added.

The legislators also distanced themselves from statements allegedly made by members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) supporting Enap’s claim to the presidency.

“We want to disassociate ourselves from the statement made by some members of PLU seeking to impose one person called Denis Adim Enap. In his statement, Enap claims he was duly elected by the UPC National Council to become party president. That is not true. I also want to clarify that he has never appeared before any UPC delegates’ conference,” Apio said.
