Uganda’s Attorney General, Sam Mayanja, has cleared Tooro Kingdom to proceed with preparations for the enthronement of Crown Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the next Omukama of Tooro.
Mayanja said the kingdom was free to continue with its preparations because no formal appeal challenging the succession had been filed in a court of law.
“These people who have given information that there is a Will, there is a son who will take over, they have not come out. So maybe the baby doesn’t exist. In that case, they proceed,” Mayanja said.
The Tooro Kingdom Supreme Council has set September 29, 2026, as the official coronation date for Crown Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, who is expected to be enthroned as Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, the 14th Omukama of Tooro.
The planned coronation follows the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV on August 27, 2026, aged 34.
The succession has, however, been the subject of controversy, with competing claims emerging over who should inherit the Tooro throne.
Despite the dispute, Mayanja maintained that, in the absence of a formal court appeal, the kingdom authorities are at liberty to proceed with the coronation arrangements.
