The family of the late Dr. Samwiri Bulwanyi Senfuma has officially announced the funeral arrangements for the celebrated psychiatrist, whose body has been repatriated from Nairobi, Kenya, to Uganda for his final send-off.
Dr. Senfuma passed away on July 31, 2026, at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi, where he had travelled to receive advanced medical treatment.
He is survived by his ten children: Christopher Senfuma, Milly Nanfuma, Stefano Kirabo Senfuma, Wycliff Bulwanyi, Karlheinz Senfuma, Melissa Bulwanyi Senfuma, Kevin Senfuma, Celestine Senfuma, Geoffrey Senfuma, and David Senfuma.
For more than four decades, Dr. Senfuma dedicated his life to medicine and mental healthcare, serving communities in Uganda, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
After graduating from Makerere University with a medical degree and pursuing further studies in Germany, he built a distinguished career as a Consultant Psychiatrist.
Despite spending many years abroad, he remained committed to improving healthcare in Uganda. He founded the Senfuma Memorial Clinic in Masaka and established the Bukango Semechi Medical Project, an initiative that offered affordable—and in many cases nearly free—medical services to underserved communities.
He also spearheaded the development of NOVUS, a specialist rehabilitation centre dedicated to helping people battling substance-use disorders, cementing his legacy as a passionate advocate for mental health.
Throughout his career, Dr. Senfuma earned admiration for his compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his patients, colleagues, family, and the wider community.
The family revealed that funeral activities will begin on Thursday with prayers and an official vigil starting at 6:00 p.m. at Kako, Masaka.
On Friday, a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Kako, before the burial at 2:00 p.m. at his ancestral home in Kako, Masaka.
The family also disclosed that his passing has brought significant financial challenges, particularly the costs of repatriating his body from Nairobi and organizing the funeral.
