The Ugandan entertainment industry has been plunged into mourning following the heartbreaking news of the death of veteran dramatist and media personality Charles James Ssenkubuge’s beloved wife, Agness Ssenkubuge.
News of Agness’ death spread like wildfire, leaving fellow artistes, friends, fans and well-wishers in shock as messages of condolence started pouring in for the grieving Ssenkubuge family.
Charles and Agness reportedly celebrated their marriage in a colourful wedding ceremony more than a decade ago and went on to build a family together, blessed with several children.
According to fellow actor Andrew Benon Kibuuka, Agness had been battling fibroid-related health complications. She reportedly underwent surgery and was later discharged from hospital to continue receiving treatment from home.
Sadly, her recovery was cut short by a devastating turn of events.
Kibuuka reportedly revealed that Agness’ nurse had left the home this morning to attend to personal matters. Upon returning to the couple’s marital home in Makindye, she made the heartbreaking discovery that Agness had breathed her last.
Her sudden death has since left many Ugandans heartbroken, with friends, fans and members of the public taking to social media to mourn her and send prayers and messages of comfort to Ssenkubuge and his family.
Meanwhile, burial arrangements are already underway.
A vigil is currently being held at the family home in Makindye, while a requiem Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Christ the King Church in Kampala.
Following the Tuesday programme, Agness’ body will be transported to Ssanda-Nakawuka in Busiro, where she will be laid to rest on Wednesday.
The loss has undoubtedly left a deep void in the Ssenkubuge family, with the Ugandan entertainment fraternity standing with the veteran dramatist during this painful moment.
