Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Manager Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye has returned to Katwe to check on the progress of Kyomugisha Babra, the struggling single mother whose story touched many after she received support from the empowerment initiative.
Namyalo visited Kyomugisha after previously meeting her during the monitoring of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) village committee voters’ register display ahead of the upcoming Local Council I elections.
The encounter came after a video highlighting Kyomugisha’s difficult living conditions with her children went viral on social media.
Single Mother’s Struggle Draws Namyalo’s Attention
During their first meeting, Kyomugisha opened up about the challenges she faced, revealing that she had no stable source of income and often struggled to provide food and other basic needs for her children.
She also shared that raising school fees had become a major challenge, with her children’s fees amounting to Shs150,000 while she sometimes struggled to raise only Shs3,000.
Moved by her situation, Hajjat Namyalo offered Kyomugisha startup capital to help her begin a small business and work towards becoming financially independent.
Family Gets New Home And Fresh Start
After visiting the family’s previous living conditions, Namyalo decided to help relocate Kyomugisha and her children to a better home.
She rented a self-contained house for the family for one year and provided essential household items including a mattress, blankets, clothes, food supplies, and other necessities.
Kyomugisha expressed gratitude, saying the support restored her hope and gave her family a fresh beginning.
“I never imagined that anyone would come to my rescue in this way. I had lost hope in life and did not expect to receive such overwhelming support. Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo wiped away my tears, restored my dignity, gave me and my children a new beginning, and even provided me with capital to start a business,” she said.
The intervention highlights the ONC’s focus on supporting vulnerable Ugandans through empowerment programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.
