Three people, including a landlady and two of her tenants, have died in a house fire at Nansana West 1F Village in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, with police investigating the incident as suspected arson.
The fire broke out at around 1 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, leaving six other occupants injured but alive.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the incident has been registered as a suspected case of suicide and murder as investigators work to establish what happened.
The deceased have been identified as Nanyombi Violet, reportedly the landlady, together with her tenants Namulondo Annet and Bulali Isabili.
According to Kawala, preliminary information indicates that the fire may have started in Nanyombi’s room.
“It is alleged that the owner of the house, known as Nanyombi Violet, set fire to her room and pushed her daughter outside. Immediately after pushing her daughter outside, the fire broke out,” Kawala said.
Police have not yet established the motive or the full sequence of events leading to the deadly fire.
In a separate account, Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said preliminary investigations were treating the incident as suspected arson, with investigators also examining reports that some occupants were forced out of the house shortly before the fire.
Police and fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene, while the bodies were recovered for identification and further forensic procedures.
