Ugandan rapper and singer Rickman Manrick has revealed that he is willing to sell his yet-to-be-released album, Yatula, for $30,000 (approximately Shs108 million), with the buyer set to acquire full ownership and rights to the entire project.
The nine-track album features songs including Muwangude, Yatula, Ndagukunda featuring Lilian, Lullaby featuring Lydia Jazmine, Kiro Kilamba, Yo Body featuring Sky Boy, Yasenga Jensula, Simanyi featuring Mbeewo, and Bwotyo.
The project boasts production from Artin Pro, B.L.T Pro, Gene, Yeee Femi and Andre, with songwriting credits shared among several contributors.
According to Rickman, the deal goes beyond simply purchasing copies or access to the music.
The successful buyer would obtain the project’s full rights and ownership, giving them control over its release, distribution, licensing, marketing and monetisation.
The unusual offer has sparked conversations among fans and music industry observers, with many wondering whether a record label, music company or private investor will step forward to acquire the album before its official release.
While some have viewed the move as an innovative approach to monetising music, others are curious about what prompted Rickman to put an unreleased project up for sale rather than release it under his own name.
Regardless of whether a buyer eventually emerges, the announcement has already generated significant attention around Yatula, positioning the album as one of the more intriguing upcoming projects on Uganda’s music scene.
