Sheikh Umar Kamoga has sensationally responded to questions about the authenticity of his prayers, pointing to the death of former Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya as what he describes as proof that his “duwas” work.
More than a year after Ssegirinya was laid to rest, Kamoga has reignited their bitter past, claiming that he prayed for the former legislator to die following a bitter disagreement between the two.
Kamoga, who was released from prison this week, made the explosive remarks while addressing the media, insisting that his prayers are powerful.
According to Kamoga, his troubles with Ssegirinya began after the former MP allegedly took a woman to his home and accused him of several things.
He claims he asked Ssegirinya to apologise, but the former MP allegedly refused and instead mocked him, questioning whether Kamoga was a genuine Sheikh.
“Before I went to prison, I prayed for him because he had started it all. He brought a girl to my home and accused me of so many things I didn’t know about. I promised him that I would recite my dua, but then he said I was a fake Sheikh. Now that he is dead, social media should believe that I’m authentic,” Kamoga said.
Ssegirinya died in January 2025 after a prolonged illness, but Kamoga insists that he had nothing to do with the former MP’s death.
Instead, he described Ssegirinya’s death as an “answered prayer,” saying he had asked Allah to remove him from the face of the earth.
“I didn’t kill him, but Allah did it. I just prayed for him to take him away,” Kamoga said.
The Sheikh further claimed that he had previously gone on camera and promised that, should Ssegirinya die, he would return to the media and declare that his prayer had been answered.
Kamoga also claimed that he reached out to Ssegirinya’s family seeking an apology over the alleged wrongs committed against him, but said they ignored his pleas.
Despite the backlash his remarks have generated on social media, particularly among those mourning Ssegirinya, Kamoga maintained that he has no intention of apologising to the deceased’s family.
“I can never apologise to his family. Instead, they should come and apologise to me because he hurt me,” he said.
He went further to issue a chilling warning, telling the family to seek him out if they did not want what he described as a “curse” to follow their bloodline.
The remarks have reopened painful memories surrounding the former MP’s death and are likely to attract fresh reactions from Ssegirinya’s family, friends and supporters.
