Ugandan singer Spice Diana has revealed that she never expected Siri Regular to become one of the biggest songs of her career, admitting that she initially disliked the track and even resisted recording it.
Speaking during an interview on Shalom 256, the singer recalled how her former manager, Manager Roger, strongly believed the song would become a hit despite her doubts.
According to Spice Diana, she never connected with the song and would often ask producers to skip it whenever it was played in the studio.
“I would tell them to press next and remove it. I had even refused to do it in the studio. I’d feel sick whenever I wanted to record it. So we added it on the EP and I didn’t even like any of the songs there, but for Siri Regular I felt it was too local. We eventually just released the EP,” she said.
The singer revealed that when it came time to shoot music videos for the EP, she was determined to prioritize Doctor, a song written by Mr. Lee that she believed had greater commercial potential.
Spice disclosed that she and her team invested about Shs 30 million in producing the Doctor video, which featured Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi.
However, Manager Roger continued pushing for Siri Regular to be released first, an idea Spice strongly opposed because she was convinced the song would flop.
