Singer and songwriter Dokta Brain has opened up about the difficult period in his music career that nearly pushed him to quietly walk away from the industry and start a completely different chapter of his life.
The musician reveals that, at one point, he seriously considered becoming a ghostwriter, writing songs for other artists without receiving any credit, while preparing to return to the music business later as an entrepreneur.
“Initially, I just wanted to disappear. I wanted it to be that when I enter the studio, the artist shouldn’t mention that I’m the one who wrote the song, apart from those who know me. I wanted to be a ghostwriter and see whether I would come back to music as just an entrepreneur because since music is a calling, it will still look,” he said.
According to Dokta Brain, his plan was not necessarily to abandon music forever, but to retreat from the spotlight and continue contributing behind the scenes while finding a more sustainable path outside mainstream music.
Ironically, just when he was contemplating disappearing from the limelight, his latest song “Bikyaganye” turned his fortunes around.
Dokta Brain admits that when he released the song, he feared people would interpret his move as an attempt to seek sympathy, yet his intention was simply to step away from the mainstream music scene.
Instead, the song went on to achieve milestones he says he had never reached throughout his years in music, including climbing to the number-one position on YouTube and music chart countdowns.
“When I released that song, I thought people would take it that I was looking for sympathy, yet I wanted to just disappear. Surprisingly, it has hit milestones that I had never seen. I have never been at number one on YouTube ever since I started doing music, but it was because of this song,” he said.
The success of “Bikyaganye” has left the singer reflecting on how close he came to walking away at the very moment his career was about to take another turn.
With several other songs already lined up, Dokta Brain believes things could have been very different had he followed through with his plan to disappear.
“To imagine I had many other songs lined up. If I had not released it, I would be nowhere,” he added.
