A first-year student at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Anitah Ainembabazi Keitesi, has died following a road accident along the Isingiro-Mbarara Road.
Keitesi, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, died on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
According to local media reports, Keitesi was travelling back to campus after attending the burial of her aunt at the family home in Butenga Village, Isingiro District, over the weekend.
She was reportedly travelling on a boda boda when the accident occurred shortly after Kaberebere Town. She sustained serious injuries and later died from them.
Details surrounding the exact circumstances of the crash, including whether another vehicle was involved, had not been established at the time of reporting.
MUST Mourns Student
MUST confirmed Keitesi’s death in a public notice issued by the Dean of Students, Ambrose K. Mugisha.
The university described her death as untimely and referred to Keitesi as a “candle in the wind” as it conveyed condolences to her family, friends and fellow students.
The university said burial arrangements would be communicated later.
The announcement also carried a message from Psalms 34:18: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Keitesi’s death has left the MUST community mourning the loss of a young student whose university journey had only just begun.
