There is no longer any debate over whether Tooro Kingdom has a new Omukama, with Babiito clan chief Omusuuga Charles Kayondo Kamurasi firmly reaffirming Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma Nyabongo as the new King.
Omusuuga made the declaration on Saturday during the funeral service for the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV at St. John Cathedral in Fort Portal, putting his weight behind the earlier announcement that Prince Edward had been chosen to occupy the Tooro throne.
Addressing mourners, Omusuuga unequivocally announced that the Kingdom now has a new King.

“I wish to inform Tooro and Uganda at large that we have a new King, Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma. The council sat and elected Edward Rukidi Nyabongo,” Omusuuga told mourners at St. John Cathedral.
His remarks come amid days of uncertainty and controversy surrounding the succession of the late King Oyo, following conflicting positions over who should take over the throne.
However, Omusuuga insisted that the process leading to the selection of Prince Edward was conducted in accordance with the law, Tooro traditions and established cultural norms.
He consequently appealed to the people of Tooro to remain calm, peaceful and united, urging them to protect the Kingdom’s cultural values during the transition.
“Everything we have done has been under the law, led by Tooro traditions and norms. Let’s keep peace and calm. God is there,” Omusuuga stated.
The declaration effectively puts the Babiito clan leadership on record as recognising Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma Nyabongo as the successor to the late Omukama Oyo, whose burial is taking place amid heightened attention on the Kingdom’s royal succession.
The development is expected to further shape the unfolding succession saga as Tooro moves to the next stage following the death of its young monarch.
