After hours of a dramatic standoff and scuffle, the body of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died aged 34, has finally been laid to rest.
The burial followed the intervention of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni through Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa and Minister Gen Tumukunde, after a disagreement involving Queen Mother Best Kemigisa brought the proceedings to a standstill.
Heavy security, including UPDF personnel, was deployed at the burial site as efforts were made to contain the situation.
Queen Mother Best Kemigisa and Princess Ruth Komuntale were reportedly locked inside a vehicle as the burial proceeded.
The late King Oyo was accorded a seven-gun salute in honour of his service and his status as the former Omukama of Tooro.
Meanwhile, in the latest development in the unfolding Tooro succession saga, Prince Edward Rukidi V has been confirmed as the new King of Tooro, with the announcement made by Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi Akiiki.
